Summertime can be compellingly drab in Orlando, specifically in the art world. With summer rains, temperatures high enough to melt you off the bone like a s’more on a stick, and an exodus of vacationers, it’s no wonder common misconception pegs Orlando arts as slim pickings in the summer months. But scratch the surface and you’ll discover the truth. There’s a lot going on in Orlando over the next few months, and we’ve catalogued a few of the artists opportunities for your consideration.

ART X SOCIAL CHANGE NIGHT in the MILK DISTRICT

Art X Social Change Night is a summer session of local art revolving around the theme of social issues and community action held at The Milk District‘s Spacebar (2428 E. Robinson Street). The goal of this event is to encourage civic participation and create communities that are engaged with social issues and change through art.The event will feature visual art, music, song, spoken word, poetry, plays, dance, print graphics, and more all around social themes such as the environment, justice, women’s rights, equality, world peace, civil rights, education, mental health, and more. Partial proceeds of the event with benefit ArtReach Orlando, a local nonprofit arts outreach program that works with children in under-served communities exploring the nexus between art and social justice in Orange County, Florida. Email [email protected] with submissions (name, issue subject, descriptions, jpeg files)

 

SUMMER SHOWCASE

Art Gallery at Mills Park is looking for emerging/ professional artists to exhibit their work for the Call to Artists Summer Showcase. There is no specific theme, simply submit 4-6 low/medium resolution jpg of your artwork to [email protected] The show will be held at the Art Gallery at Mills Park, and will feature the most original, eclectic mix of art that Orlando has to offer. Email [email protected] with submissions.

AiOP invites proposals for its second annual public art and performance festival in Orlando, taking place from November 11-13, 2016, along Central Boulevard, from Osceola Avenue to Magnolia Avenue and down Magnolia Avenue to Pine Street. We welcome a broad range of artistic disciplines that provoke the consciousness of the community, including visual, installation, performance, time-based media, virtual/gaming work, online-IRL hybrids, and others. We encourage projects that explore this location’s history that actively engage the public. ARTISTS IN ACTION

Art and History Museums Maitland (A&H) offers an Artist-in-Action (AIA) program that reflects the spirit of founder André Smith’s Research Studio and the current mission of the institution. This program provides non-residential studio space at A&H’s Maitland Art Center to established or emerging artists for the professional practice and research of fine art. Artists are the backbone of the Creative City Project. And we exist to take you to the next level. The Creative City Project team works to collaborate with you to help you develop your creative dreams and bring them to life. ARTLando is an immersive experience for our attendees where they can see art being created. We want you creating your art LIVE! Bring your paint, canvas and anything else you need to create your art. All artists that paint/create during the event will be judged and booth fees will be used exclusively in production of the event and to award $3000 in cash prizes to artists who place in the competition.
